The health resort was established in 1828, at the request of the physician of the emperor's court. It was created as a hospital around Staraya Russia 's mineral waters.

At present, mineral-rich materials are used for external application in the form of baths and washings. The mineral water is also used to treat gastrointestinal diseases. The mineral resources of the health resort, in the form of lakes and ponds, create a unique microclimate capable of treating adults and children with diseases of the upper respiratory tract and vascular pathologies. Since 1839, active treatment has included slimy sulfide-rich mud.

Thanks to the modern methods of medical treatment, the health resort is always ready to receive adults and children from all the regions of Russia and CIS for their subsequent treatment and rehabilitation. Here the diseases of musculoskeletal system, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and female genital system are treated successfully. ENT-diseases, some dermal diseases, chronic prostatitis and many other diseases are among concomitant diseases. Here you can undergo a course of sexual disorders medical treatment, acupuncture courses, cleansing of bowels, ultrasonic diagnostics, treatment with cosmetics, mucous tunic of oral cavity treatment (periodontitis). There is an excellent basis for endoecological rehabilitation conducting. The traditional course of medical treatment is intended for 21 days. Health resort “Staraya Russa” proposes to examine the causes of diseases, and on those findings are conducted the treatments :

"Gverstyanec", the children's health educational camp of sanatorium type, is located in a picturesque pinery on the bank of Gverstjanets lake that is 12 km away from a village Kresttsy (Novgorod region).

Its territory is about 15 hectares, where the administrative building, a dining hall for 300 seats, 5 dwelling brick buildings, club, a big sports ground (volleyball, football, basketball ones, horizontal bars), game small towns for small kids and juniors, a forest park, a beach, a waterpark, the open concert ground, boiler are placed. There are all the conveniences in buildings, plus boilers with hot water.

Each room houses up to 6 persons. There is a lounge with soft furniture, a TV, a video recorder, a karaoke on each floor.

The following specialists work in the sanatorium: an allergologist, a cardioreumatologist, a gastroenterologist, an ear-nose-throat doctor, a pediatrist, a teenage doctor, a physiotherapist, an exercise therapist, an emergency doctor, a dietitian.

The staff is manned by ward nurses, nurses of an insulator and physiotherapy wards, a treatment nurse, a nurse-dietitian, masseurs.

The children's health educational camp of sanatorium type "Gverstyanec" renders the following services:

• - realization of children's tickets,
• - health-sanitary medical treatment,
• - rest for adults and children,
• - holding of meetings, scientifically-practical conferences, corporate meetings on the basis of sanatorium (It's possible to accommodate up to 300 persons.),
• - arranging of sports competitions.

The office of "Mother and Child", the state public health sanitarium, formed in November, 1999 is a result of reorganizating the provinicial hospital for the rehabilitation of Novgorod 's children.

The sanatorium is located in the picturesque pine woods, not far from the Mista River. It occupies an area of 30.4 hectares .

The sanatorium settlement consists of 16 apartment houses of three classes: average (with hot water), improved comfort (with refrigerator, TV, shower, and hot water), and deluxe (refrigerator, TV, shower, sauna, and hot water). The houses have one, two, or three rooms. Each room houses from 2 up to 4 persons, depending on the number of the family members.

A nutrition unit, which includes a kitchen and a dining hall, a playing room with a library, a bath-house, a physiotherapy room, and a massage room are located in the territory of the sanatorium.

There is a paved road, in the center of the sanatorium. There is also a parking place for private vehicles and street lighting. Basic forms of activity here include treatment and rehabilitation of children and adults that have bronchial asthma and allergenic ailments (license №446 of the 19-th of November 1999).
